Principal Update:
Our final week of the month of February is now complete. Looking ahead to the month of March it is full of impactful learning opportunities and experiences for our students in all grade levels. Our Seniors will have their Kairos retreat, our 8th graders will be taking their trip to Washington, D.C., multiple class retreats, and our Culture Trip to Costa Rica all come at the end of the month. Our third quarter grading period will end on March 14th, and we will welcome the Lenten Season on Ash Wednesday, March 5th.
It seems only appropriate that we enter the Lenten Season during this time of the school year. The coming weeks are sure to be ones of great opportunity and of transition for all of us. There is a great deal of preparation taking place in our school from our Seniors preparing for their next steps in life, to our Junior High students continuing to put their best effort forward in embracing our expectations. I know for me personally, this Lent will be especially impactful as I reflect on my journey here at St.Paul High School. I am fully embracing the present by celebrating daily moments with our students and staff, but continue to prepare myself for the next chapter of my life.
This week we celebrated our Competition Cheer Team led by Mrs. Weisenberger, who won not just one, but two state titles at the OASSA State Competition last weekend. I’m not only proud of the team’s performance, but of our community of support that went down to Columbus to cheer on our team. Flyer Spirit and Pride was everywhere! Our absences were better this week so I am hopeful that we are getting past the peak of illnesses. This past month has been a challenge with many students and staff members out ill, but I am proud of how our school community has responded. Please make sure students are getting plenty of sleep and using common sense prevention strategies.
Congratulations to our varsity boys basketball team that will be competing for a district title on Saturday at 6:00pm at Shelby High School. Next week is our musical, Big Fish. Our students will be treated to a preview of the production next Friday. Congratulations and good luck to all involved. Our spring sports teams are in full preparation for their seasons and look forward to an exciting season on the diamond and on the track. Have a wonderful weekend and Go Flyers!
Gratefully,
Mike Gocsik Principal
