President Message:
Dear Norwalk Catholic Families and Faculty,
As we navigate Ohio’s winter weather, the safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. At Norwalk Catholic, we recognize there is no adequate replacement for in-person instruction. We value every day of learning and are committed to providing a safe and productive environment for our school community.
As an Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Charted Non-public School, our “calamity days”—are not determined by a fixed number of days, but rather by the total number of instructional hours provided over the course of the school year. As such, we purposefully maximize instructional time throughout the school year to adequately prepare for unforeseen school closures. These built-in instructional hours help us preserve valuable in-person instructional time and minimize the need to utilize other methods such as on-line/remote learning or adding days to the school calendar.
From time to time when school is closed, certain courses and grade levels may send projects or tasks home to maintain the pace and rigor of student learning. If there is a need to make changes to our instructional planning to further maximize instruction, our priority is to make these changes within the hours of the regularly scheduled school day.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together to provide a safe, faith-filled, and academically excellent education for our students. We appreciate your partnership and flexibility throughout the school year.
Sincerely,
Martin Linder '99
President
Norwalk Catholic / St. Paul High School
Principal's Update:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy Catholic Schools Week! As anticipated the weather has kept us from celebrating together this week, but I am hopeful that will change very soon. Even though school has not been in session this week, there is still plenty of work taking place.
In today’s newsletter, there is a very important statement from Mr. Linder explaining our school’s policy regarding calamity days. I recognize that this gets confusing as other districts communicate their policies differently for various reasons. Our academic calendar is intentionally structured to maximize instructional hours well beyond the minimum requirements, providing us flexibility when we experience weeks such as this one. Please take a moment to read Mr. Linder’s message.
This newsletter also has a video Mr. Linder shared with our parishes regarding Catholic Schools Week and in gratitude for our Catholic community. Please take a moment to watch the video and consider sharing it with those you know who might be interested in pursuing a Catholic education. I have said it many times as I believe it in my heart, Norwalk Catholic/St. Paul High School is home. Great things are happening and I continue to be proud of the effort our students have made this school year. Catholic Schools Week isn’t just about celebrating our successes, but it is a wonderful opportunity to extend an invitation to others to join our school community. The Flyer Family is strong and will continue to get stronger through our engagement and welcoming of others.
Even though I am unsure what the weather has in store the remainder of the week, I am confident we will finish the school week strong. We will continue to adapt to our challenges and embrace them as opportunities. In one way or another, I am looking forward to celebrating Catholic education with our students when it is determined safe to do so! Go Flyers!
