Principal Update:
It’s been a busy and productive week on campus. Our freshmen went to the Maltz Museum in Cleveland on Monday which was a great experience for them. On Tuesday, members of our Anatomy and AP Biology classes went to the University of Toledo’s Medical Campus to tour their cadaver lab. Adding to the impact of this trip, their tour was led by alumnus Noah Avendano ‘19 who is presently in medical school at the University of Toledo. Such a unique learning opportunity for all.
This week our school entered Lent with an All School Mass on Wednesday. We will be participating in a Lenten project collecting items for cancer patients. Information is in this Friday Flyer and on our daily announcements. During Lent we do several things to recognize the significance of the season, some more subtle than others. Our daily prayers change, placing a greater emphasis on preparing ourselves for Christ’s Passion and Resurrection. The St. Timothy Chapel is adorned with purple, which is the color of Lent. After our school Masses we skip our tradition of singing the alma mater, and end our Masses in reflection and silence. There will be many activities our students will participate in throughout Lent and Holy Week. I look forward to these opportunities to pray and reflect as a school community.
I would like to congratulate senior Garrett Cook who received an appointment to West Point Military Academy. Appointments to military academies involve a very extensive process along with very high standards. Garrett’s achievement is extraordinary, and well earned. Congratulations Garrett and thank you for your willingness to serve! Sophomore Rafael Gross will be wrestling at the state tournament this weekend. We sent him off to Columbus in Flyer style. Good luck Rafael, the Flyer Family is behind you!
The end of our third quarter is next Friday. Have a wonderful weekend. Best wishes to the cast and crew of our musical “Big Fish” during their performances this weekend! We were able to have a school preview this afternoon and am excited for our community to experience the many talents of our students.
Gratefully,
Mike Gocsik Principal
St. Paul High School
