Empowering God’s Children: A Shared Commitment to the Safety of Our Children

The Diocese of Toledo is committed to helping children understand their God-given dignity, recognize healthy boundaries, develop age-appropriate safety skills, and know when and how to seek help.
Empowering God’s Children is a regular part of our religious education curriculum. Just as children need to learn what to do in the event of a fire, severe weather, or another emergency, they also need the knowledge and confidence to respond when they encounter situations that may make them uncomfortable or unsafe. These are essential skills for helping children navigate the world with confidence.
Beginning this year, the Diocese of Toledo will no longer offer an opt-out from Empowering God’s Children. Consistent participation ensures that every child receives these important safety messages and skills.
Parents and guardians remain the primary educators of their children. Lesson materials will continue to be available for review before instruction, and families are encouraged to continue these conversations at home.
