The Belize mission trip team is filled with the Holy Spirit. Our first day we learned about the history of the Valley of Peace. A long time resident shared his story about fleeing to the Valley with his family when he was 12 years old to avoid persecution in his home country. We had an authentic lunch of papusas, made by the locals, with some help from out team. We toured St. Oscar Romero Roman Catholic school where the team met each class, saw the many improvement projects that are in progress and also played with students at recess using items donated by our school to these students through our November service learning collection project.
While at the school, we harvested coconuts and the principal cut them so we could drink the coconut water. We are thankful for this opportunity. For the remainder of the week our team will be leading retreats for students receiving First Communion and Confirmation as well as connecting our school to Belize through video conferencing. Please keep our team and our mission in prayer this week.
Thank you to the GeoTrac foundation, Norwalk Kiwanis, the Fr. Tony Borgia family and the students on this trip who all gave generously to make this mission a reality.
