8th Grade Leadership Class Hosts Inspiring Guest Speakers

The 8th Grade Leadership class wrapped up the school year with a series of impactful guest visits, each offering unique perspectives on what it means to be a leader.

-Alum Frank Van Dresser '97 kicked things off by discussing leadership in the business world. Drawing from his experiences at St. Paul and as a football player at Ohio Northern University, he encouraged students to “raise their hand and help out” when it’s their turn—just as so many others have done for them. As a lasting reminder of his message, he gifted each student a copy of Lead for God’s Sake!

-Alumna Emily Riley '01 led three engaging sessions, covering leadership in sports, leadership in the military, and a hands-on team-building activity using paper plates. Her sessions encouraged students to think critically and collaborate with purpose.

-Huron County Commissioner and Alum Brad Mesenburg '01 visited to share his experience in local government. He spoke about the importance of community leadership and serving others through public service.

-Mr. Denny Doughty '72 spent three class periods diving into the fundamentals of E + R = O (Event + Response = Outcome) and the mindset behind “The Edge”—challenging students to push beyond the “mountain of average.” His passion and commitment to student growth left a lasting impression.

-Coach Livengood closed out the series by reflecting on his journey—from playing football in fifth grade to balancing coaching and family life. He highlighted the key qualities of effective leaders: organization, discipline, and empathy.

These real-world insights and heartfelt messages gave our students valuable tools and inspiration as they continue growing into the next generation of leaders.
